Crotchless Chap Jeans? Umm?

Has the denim world actually lost its mind?

I wasn’t actually going to do a blog post on these Ragged Priest Chap Crotchless Jeans, but as they’ve gone viral and a friend showed me them, I couldn’t bite my tongue. I’ve spoken numerous times about how the denim world has gone crazy over the last year or so and keeps on releasing the most weirdest jeans, some that are not even wearable and some that are just outright insane, then once you think it can’t get any worse, along come these…

My love for denim has somewhat dwindled (as I mentioned here) and when you’re faced with things like this, can you blame me? I don’t even know where to begin with them. I know Shirley Ballas from Strictly Come Dancing modelled them on Loose Women (which was hilarious) and then a model actually tested these jeans out and about in London, doing normal things (see the photos here). How she didn’t get arrested for indecent exposure, I don’t know! I mean what happens if some of you ladies like to go commando with your jeans? Don’t even try it, ha ha.

I’m well aware that Ragged Priest as a brand have always liked to push the boundaries and go down a more unique route, but this just really takes the biscuit in my opinion. I can’t help but wonder sometimes if brands release jeans like this on purpose with the intent of going viral and to see if people would be crazy enough to wear them, or they actually genuinely like them. Who knows? Anyway, I had to share these with you. They’re no longer on ASOS as I think they sold out, which shocks me as they’re £75, but there’s a similar pair available here if you want to check them out.

Yes these push the limits, and it’s being done in a fashion that nobody is used to.
I see them as being summer or beach clothing.
The ones on Asos look much better than the ones displayed here, but if styled right they would be ok.
These would not be considered as pants, but more an accessory to shorts, or even a swimsuit, or leggings, or maybe even another pair of pants.
Now, the politically correct side of me would have more to say; in that
    1. In today’s sexually charged world if they’re going to make them for women, they should make them for men, or not make them at all.
    2. Not saying that I myself would wear them, but it would only level the playing field when it comes to men and women’s fashion.
    3. If they were designed a little better in that the lines of symmetry were a little neater then they might be more appealing.
Example: leather, when cut is much cleaner than cotton, but it could be done.
Leather is more rigid, which makes it more tame when you move within in, where cotton or denim is not as tame, and moves more wildly
Now as far as gender play goes, I think men might be more interested if the lines of symmetry were nearer, and the design was more sporty appealing more to an athletic point of view, whereas for women the lines of symmetry were were equal to the men’s cut or fit, but appealing more to the casual or dressy side of women. And by dressy I mean even a neater cut.

I know what I’m saying sounds far off, but if one could see what I see, it would make more sense. But the designe could be done, if the L.O.S were done much neater.

I don’t think these would look good on either men or women, ha ha.

Yeah, I’m pretty darn open minded, so let me first say, “to each his own.”

However, yeah. I feel like this is getting rather silly. Is the denim industry running out of ideas? It seems now these brands are resorting to nothing but shock value and negative press for attention…

Interesting, to say the least. Haha 🙂

I feel exactly the same way. I think there’s nowhere left to go in terms of design so they’re doing anything that’s crazy and that will make headlines, it’s definitely not about what’s flattering and accentuates curves anymore 🙁
