How to Choose the Right Style of Jeans for You

You know what a great pair of jeans look like, we all do here, but finding the perfect pair can seem impossible sometimes, especially since there’s so much choice. The right jeans are out there; someone has made them just for you, and the following tips are going to help you find them.

If They Fit, They Fit

Regrettably, one reason people have trouble finding the right jeans is that they focus too much on the label. Don’t fall for this because it might steer you away from the jeans that were meant for you.

High-end brands often use high-quality materials and may have a decent resale value, but if you want to find your dream jeans, focus on how they look. What you have to remember is that jean makers don’t necessarily share details on jean production. One brand may make a size 10 that fits more like a size 14 and so on. Looking beyond the label is one way you can find the right jeans. As an example, if you take your normal size into the changing room and it doesn’t fit, try a different size, it’s about what fits you, the label is only a guide.

Darker is Always Better

Dark wash jeans are usually more flattering on the body than lighter jeans. No one is saying you can’t opt for a lighter pair if that’s what you want, but darker is usually better. Give dark jeans a try the next time you’re looking for a good pair because they usually look great.

There are a number of reasons why darker is better. For one, it’s more slimming, which helps your legs look more proportionate to your body. It should also be pointed out that darker jeans tend to look more polished. This means you’ll probably be able to achieve either a casual or business look with just a few minor adjustments to your outfit of the day.

Distressed is Good

The next thing you want to pay attention to is how distressed your jeans look. The distressed jeans trend has been going on for some time, and there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get a piece of the pie. Still, there are a few nuggets to be aware of if you’re going to buy distressed jeans. For one, keep in mind that distressed lines highlight a particular area.

What does a highlighted area mean for you? It means that people are going to pay attention to distressed spots like your thighs, knees, or even your behind. This emphasis might sound okay if you want to show a particular part of your body off, but the reality is heavily distressed spots could make areas appear bigger than they are. If you are concerned about that, what you want is an evenly distributed distressed look rather than one that has distressed spots.

Vintage is Magic

The next thing you should pay attention to is the overall look of your jeans. At the moment, vintage is in, and you can choose jeans with that flair. There are a few reasons why you might want to stick to that vintage look beyond style though. For one, these jeans usually fit more body types.

Consider the Mom jean; these high-waisted, taper-legged jeans are quite the showstoppers, especially if you add modern touches like high heels. The reason these jeans are desirable amongst fashionistas is because they’re wide around your behind, which means you can flatter yourself but leave a sense of mystery at the same time.

Never Look Back

One mistake some people make with jeans is attempting to wear ones that are meant for younger people. There’s nothing wrong with these types of jeans, but they normally work best with teens or tweens and might make an older person look older than they really are.

Don’t be afraid to look your age. You don’t have to wear the trendiest jeans in order to be trendy. Trendiness is fluid, and you can find it at any age, it’s all down to the styling and the fit.

Shop for Your Body Type

When you shop for your jeans, be sure to take your body type into account because it’ll help guide you to the right pair. First, of course, you’ll need to figure out your body type, then you can start looking for jeans that will suit you best. For example, a pear-shaped body type carries more weight in the hips, rear, and thighs. This means your jeans should be mid-rise to help make your legs look longer.

Apple-shaped bodies will need a little more give around the waist since that’s where the weight is carried. It is recommended that you stick to straight leg jeans that help highlight your other assets without making the middle-section look too heavy. Regrettably, the high-waisted look might not be for you.

Curvaceous body types want to be careful with slim jeans because they can accentuate areas you don’t want to be accentuated, so try to stick to jeans made specifically for curvaceous body types or at least have some stretch.

Petite body types can wear almost anything, but do your best to stick to long jeans to make your legs look longer; baggy pants may not be your best option.

Those with an hourglass shape should be able to wear almost anything as well – although skinny jeans will need a lot more give around the waist to be a good fit.

While knowing your body shape can be a helpful tool when shopping for jeans, don’t let it be the be-all-and-end-all factor. If you feel great in a pair of jeans, don’t worry about what style they are – they are the ones for you.

Hopefully this guide will help you find the perfect pair of jeans. But keep in mind that it’s all about you. Find jeans that make you happy, and be patient with your search. The right pair of jeans is a great part of any wardrobe, and well worth the effort it takes to find them. Once you do find them, you might even want to consider purchasing a second pair. That way you won’t need to go jeans shopping again for that much longer. I personally end up buying the same cut of jeans in numerous washes if I know they work!

I never thought to consider that I needed to buy jeans that were right for my body type. I usually just buy whatever I can get past my thighs. After reading this article, I know that I need to be more selective about what jeans I wear.
