Step Away From The Skinny Jean!

Hey you! Step away from the skinny jeans!

As I have mentioned before, skinny jeans have become a staple now and instead of being the trending jean, they have taken a backseat. When we think of jeans that are fashionable and on trend, we look to flares, boyfriend jeans, dad jeans, mom jeans… Anything that isn’t tight and skinny. We have stepped away from the skinny, and into the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. This has slowly been happening over the last few seasons, and I’m sure you’re aware of it, but since this is now at its peak, I had to do a blog post on it.

Literally every brand is producing baggy, loose fit jeans, and stepping away from the skinny. I’m not saying skinny jeans are redundant by any means, they are still worn tucked into long boots, and they’re still worn with casual outfits like a pair of Converse and a sweater. But what is the difference here? The skinny jean is a basic now and such a classic that it’s no longer worn for fashionable, on trend outfits. Who would have thought that would have happened? It took a long time though, that’s for sure.

So what denim cuts are we seeing now? We are still loving cropped inseams, so instead of a skinny ankle jean, we have flared ankle jeans, almost like culottes, and they can be worn dressed up if they have a sewn hemline, however if they have a raw hem, they look great with sneakers. We are seeing baggy dad jeans that are very reminiscent of the 90’s, and the inseam is longer, bunching up around the sneakers. We’re still seeing mom jeans as those are not going anywhere, and then we have cross-over jeans, like I mentioned before, and trouser style jeans that are flared, as well as a tapered, paperbag kind of fit. Literally everything but a skinny jean, and you’ll be on trend! I’ve selected 15 of the coolest pairs around, and you can shop them below, but what do you think of this trend? Have you put your skinny jeans away?

What a turn off. I like to see my Gal in tight fades of light blue with Camel toe. She can jump on the back of my Harley and hold me tight anytime, but not when it’s snowing. These models showing these baggy saggy looks are better suited to be working the Green Acres of Hooterville.

Fashion disaster in the making! Are they insane charging premium prices for that? These styles are abominations and absolutely horrendous! A lot of people are going to look back and regret seeing themselves in these styles later on and cringe. Can’t help but reference back to the time when the skinny was starting to shake up the denim world from around 2006 to 2015 however this is the nature of the denim industry. Just looking forward to the skinny coming back with a vengeance. If the choice was between looking good vs looking trendy I would go with looking good every time hands down because these choices are often at odds with each other.

I think it would have to be some new remake of the skinny in order for it to trend again. Skinny is now a staple classic, so they need to update it in someway for it to create a stir in the industry!

Each to their own, but for me it’s skinny jeans all the way. Whenever I see someone wearing baggy jeans, they look untidy and rarely flattering, regardless of shape and size of the wearer. Tight fitting jeans in the other hand look smarter and sexier.

But hey, it wouldn’t do for us all to be the same, nor would it?

I prefer skinny jeans too, I just bought some new pairs, but unfortunately we have to keep up with the denim trends, being a denim magazine, and you’d be surprised just how many people are loving the looser cuts! Ha ha.
