American Eagle Skinny High Rise Jeggings Review

American Eagle High Rise Jeggings Denim Review

I’m back with another review! This time on the American Eagle Skinny High Rise Jeggings! After spending a lot of time in the United States over the past year, I developed a love of American Eagle jeans. They aren’t that popular here as we don’t have any stores, but some of their items are available on ASOS and other places. Going in the stores though and trying on their jeans in person, it changed my mind entirely on the brand! Not only are they affordable, but the fit was something I wasn’t expecting! It turns out that I love them so much, I now own about 8 pairs of the jeggings and about 4 pairs of the mom jeans! Read my review below.

The Sizing – American Eagle jeans run in American dress sizes like 2, 4, 6 etc, and these are size 6. I would say that’s an equivalent to a 28/29. American Eagle itself says it’s around a 27, but I have since lost weight and am wearing size 4 in their jeans and I’d say that was more of a 27. They come in four different lengths too, which is incredible! You have extra short, short, regular, and long. I’m wearing the size 6 in short as I’m only 5ft 4 and have shorter legs. They turned out to be perfect in length, hitting right at my ankles as you can see! For reference, I am a 28 in PAIGE and Citizens of Humanity, and took a 6 in these, if that helps!

The Fit – The High Rise Jegging is a fantastic fit! The rise is really comfortable in height, I’d say it’s just over 10″, so it’s really flattering. They have a comfortable, not too tight waistband, and the room in the hips/thighs is wonderful. They do make a Curve selection too for those with curvier hips and smaller waists, so you really cannot go wrong with American Eagle Jeggings! The back pockets are placed nicely to be flattering on the butt too, with minimal design, just the classic signature stitching.

The Denim – The denim fabric is very thin and stretchy, it’s a cotton, polyester, elastane blend, and it’s incredibly comfortable! They feel like actual leggings, they are that stretchy. You can wear them the entire day and not feel uncomfortable at all. They’re a dream to wear, especially for sitting for longer periods of time. I wouldn’t say the denim is of a super high quality compared to some of the denim I’m used to from premium brands, and the washes aren’t that authentic looking, in comparison, but for the price point, I am completely happy! These are a mid wash blue with fading and whiskering and they look pretty good for their price! I own many different washes in this fit though!

The Details – There aren’t too many details here to shout about, just the leather looking patch on the back of the waist band, the signature logo stitching on the back pockets, and contrast orange stitching on the jeans. Other than that, they’re pretty minimal.

The Price – The usual retail value is around $49.95, however American Eagle always have a sale running, or discount codes, so I didn’t pay more than $35 for them! How amazing is that for a super comfortable, great fitting pair of skinny jeans? You can’t go wrong! The best part is that this pair is on sale right now for $24.97! I can’t recommend them enough for that! I’ve actually rarely been wearing my premium jeans lately, and living in my American Eagle ones!

Overall Opinion – As you can tell in this review, I love American Eagle High Rise Jeggings! They fit perfectly, they’re comfortable, they’re stretchy, they’re more than affordable… Sure the washes aren’t as amazing as some premium pairs, and the denim isn’t as high quality, but the overall fit is better than some of my premium jeans! So that’s funny! For their price though, I cannot recommend them enough! Are you already fans of American Eagle?

    Hi Lorna

They look fabulous on you, but do does everything you wear ?

I’ma but confused though as I always thought jeggings were leggings made from denim so without a zipper. Have I been misunderstanding all these years?!

Anyways, those are gorgeous heels. What brand are they please?

    Love and hugs

      Hey Russ!

Yes! You have misunderstood! Easy done though! Jeggings are super stretchy, legging like denim, so it’s just the fabric that’s super stretchy like a legging, but they still come in jeans format with the pockets, button, zipper etc! Some don’t have front pockets, but most do! You can get actual denim leggings without zippers and buttons, but those are rarer and I haven’t seen them in a long time! Does that make sense?

      And thank you so much!

        Hi Lorna

Well I never knew!!! So I have pairs of jeggings I always described as “tube pants”, The ones I have most of are from Top Shop. They are a super skintight fit and so wearable because of the Lycra in them. I love them and they’re my go to jeans, sorry, jeggings!

Until the pair I bought online from recently. Marked as 25” waist and 32” inside leg, they were way smaller. I laid them flat on the bed to measure the leg and it was 4” shorter. I got into them after them struggle (this time I laid in the bed!) and the waist was tiny. I could only just do them up. What happened there? Do you think manufacturers are scrimping?

Hi Russ, sometimes that happens. Different washes, fabric blends etc, all run differently. Happens with premium denim too. Make sure you didn’t accidentally get the petite version, it should say on the label, and if not, it’s just a difference in their design. They are probably cropped if they say 32″ and they come up shorter by 4 inches, I’d say they were designed to be an ankle jean!

Thanks Lorna, that makes perfect sense ?

As a guy I’ve worn some women’s AE jeans and they do fit like a dream. I’m surprised they’re not that popular in the UK. TJ Max and Marshalls also carry their jeans typically for $20, so yeah AE is really available here in the US.

Yeah! I loved how easy they were to get over there! I hope they gain more popularity in the UK though!

I know these are jeggings (they look good on you), but a jeans question. I don’t like the rounded curvy bum look in jeans now. I like more of a tighter, firmer square fit tight bum (less wrinkles under the bum too). I also see the rounder bum tends to give out more and look droopier after wear compared to a squarer bum design, so rounder bums in jeans always look bigger. Even 100% cotton jean styles can have a rounded bum design. What type of jeans should I look for squarer bums, as I never see anyone address this part of the fit or design. Sorry for saying bum so much 🙂 Perhaps I should look at Levi’s again if they still make squared off bums? Who else?

Honestly I have no idea, brand’s are mostly focused on comfort and shape enhancement, which requires a rounder bum area. The flat bum design (if I understand you right) is more of a vintage fit because jeans used to be unisex and guys didn’t require as much space in the bum as women do. A lot of women don’t find this comfortable anymore, so maybe you could look into some vintage Levi’s. RE/DONE might be a good option as well 🙂

They were women’s fit and actually more comfortable. They also felt better as they looked much more flattering than the rounded cut which usually looks droopy (extra arsey). I might try Levi’s. Thanks very much for your reply

I love American Eagle Jeans. I think they are the best brand that represents barbie’s image. There are so many shades and different styled stitching and fit.
