The Denim Culottes & Gaucho Jeans Trend
The Culottes or Gaucho pants trend is huge right now! It was popular during FW15 fashion week street style and it’s continued to pop up in designers collections as well as now making its way to the high street stores. The best thing about these pants though is the fact that denim brands are releasing their own takes on the trend too! You can see some gorgeous ladies here rocking their own denim culottes and styling them to perfection. There’s something about the style that makes me think of Parisian Chic! Kate Bosworth has also recently been spotted in them!
Citizens of Humanity have designed their own Culotte jeans, called the Melanie and I think it’s gorgeous! You can see it at the bottom of this post. Citizens of Humanity will be launching the Melanie on July 1st on their website and in select stockists. It will be priced at $278, but I wanted to find out more about them so I caught up with the Citizens of Humanity Women’s Creative Director, Catherine Ryu, to see what her inspirations were and her thoughts on the trend. You can read this interview just below! In the mean time though, you can shop other culottes and gaucho jeans on Shopbop and on ASOS and the Citizens at Shopbop.
The Jeans Blog – Are you happy the culottes trend is coming back?
Catherine – I love the culotte silhouette, it’s so chic! It’s so 70’s and so iconic, very Jane Birkin.
TJB – What do you think has made it trend right now?
Catherine – 70’s has been a major inspiration on the runway the last few seasons and the culotte is the perfect translation of this trend into denim!
TJB – Can you tell us about the new Melanie jean you have designed?
Catherine – The Melanie is a classic Citizens of Humanity archive style that Jerome designed about 10 years ago. We modified and modernized the original design into a high rise culotte with an undone hem, which hits just right at the ankle making it perfect for an ankle boot or strappy heels!
TJB – What makes it so great?
Catherine – It’s so chic yet easy to wear with a cool vintage wash…it’s perfectly love-worn!
TJB – Thank you, Catherine!
