How To Tuck Your Jeans Into Boots
Tucking your jeans into boots is something that most of us need to do at some point in our lives, especially now that the Autumn is upon us. Whether you are an avid wearer of boots and love the style, or you are trying something new and would like to go for a sleeker look as a change, I’ve put together a list of various tips on how to tuck your jeans into your boots perfectly, for a slim, no bunching appearance.
Sometimes bootcut jeans lovers want to go for a style that’s a little slimmer, trying out a sleek outfit with boots, but often it’s not easy to tuck those types of jeans into boots with the excess fabric. Of course one of the easiest ways of wearing jeans and boots is by picking a pair of super skinny, legging style jeans that are tight all the way to the ankle, as these are the best option and require no effort, however not everyone has a pair of skinny jeans, so check out these tips below and enjoy wearing your boots!
However, since the best and easiest way to wear boots is with a skinny, check out these classic black and blue options just below, they’re highly recommended by myself and denim lovers:
Fold & Tuck Your Jeans Into Socks
If you can’t find a pair of skinny jeans to tuck into your boots, one of the best ways is to use socks. It’s incredibly easy to fold the hem of your bootcut or straight leg jeans up, so there’s no bunching, and then fold the jeans into a flap that tucks around and folds flat against your ankle (see image above). Once you have done this, pull your sock up so that it goes over the denim and secures the folding and flaps in place. This will ensure that your jeans stay in the skinny position all day and it makes it incredibly easy for your foot to slip into your boot without getting any bunching from the jeans. You can see from the two infograhics above, just what I’m talking about. This is a tried and tested method that myself and so many other people use, it’s one of the easiest, cheapest ways of ensuring your jeans give that slim silhouette and stay inside your boots all day long!
Put An Elastic Band, Hair Band Or Boot Strap On Your Jeans
If the sock method wont cut it for you because you have open toed boots that you want to wear, or your boots simply wont fit with a sock as they are too tight, there are a couple of other ways which can help.
One thing you could do is use an elastic band to keep the fold/tuck (as described above) secure and in place, or you can use a hair band. When doing this though, you need to make sure that the band isn’t too tight and putting a strain on the blood supply to your foot. It needs to be looser, but just enough to keep the denim in place. This isn’t as secure as the sock method unfortunately since the bands are smaller and don’t cover as much of an area as the socks, but it does help. You can actually get officially made straps like this or you could also cut the foot section off of a pair of old, broken socks and use that! That will help keep things secure and nobody needs to know you have a sock on!
Another way to tuck your jeans into boots is with boot straps (see here). These don’t give an entirely slim silhouette since you aren’t doing the folding method, however you can buy clip on elastics that go under the arch of your foot and attach each side to the hem of your jeans. These help keep the jeans pulled down so they wont ride up. These are very similar to the leggings that you can get with the stirrups on them, for horse riding. If you are fussy about things though, like myself, these can get irritating and annoying to wear since you are stepping on the strap a lot and I imagine the clip would press on your skin a lot if you have a tighter fitting boot.

So, that rounds up how to tuck your jeans into boots and hopefully it’s really helpful for anyone trying to avoid that bulky, bagginess that can be created with bootcut jeans. I don’t recommend trying this with baggy boyfriend jeans or large flares though as the excess fabric above the knee will be unsightly. You need slim jeans from the knee up to create a sleek appearance. Tucking your jeans into boots needn’t be a chore or something that’s difficult – it’s easy to do! I actually always tuck my skinny jeans into my socks anyway just for extra security. How do you wear your jeans with boots?

It’s definitely a great combination!
Hi Lorna!
This is really a interesting and informative article. It was a good idea that you took on this topic (is this correct? ..) as still many women struggle with this. They fear or avoid wearing boots over jeans because they do not know these tricks. it happend quiet often to me (as a man!) that I had the opportunity to help women (co-workers or colleagues or women struggling while trying on boots in stores) by explaining the trick with the socks. I found this a bit peculiar, after so many years that tall boot worn over jeans an pants is in fashion and the usual knowledge exchange in fashion topics.
Furthermore, elastic bands and straps are hard to find in shops, at least in Switzerland an Germany. Back in the late 80ies, straps with clips could be found in good shoe stores but nowadays I only know them form internet shops. Too bad, because they would be so helpful. Do you use such straps too or are you only doing the trick with the socks over the pants?
Especially for men it would be a great help if they only knew more about the good ways to wear pants in boots. Maybe this ist one of the great obstacles for other men to wear boots with pants tucked in (beside of the very poor choice of boots) because they fear from looking like a farmer straight out of the stable with wide pants bunching up and hanging over the shaft of the boots.
Thank you again very much!
Greetings

Hi Thomas, I only use the sock trick as I always wear socks with my boots anyway. Glad you liked the article!
Hi Lorna! I also wear always socks with my boots, so the sock trick is easy, obvious and quickly fixed. The straps are a good alternative for ladies wearing nylon stockings under her pants, of course, and for wider fitting pants, which are especially wider around the knee or dress pants. I own some of those straps too and for these kind of pants/jeans, the give a stronger, more thighter and stronger fixation of the pants inside and down in the boots. And while bending the knees for walking and sitting down, the pants do not rise out of the sock. They aren’t really uncomfortable to wear, even it takes a bit getting used to. But for the normal case wearing slim fit pants in the boots, the sock trick is of course the easy and simply way :-).

Hi Thomas, I sometime attempt to tuck spray on jeans into Chelsea boots, ever sort of boots are you wearing … thinking you may have some ideas for the guys on this ??
Those boots straps look like a great idea. I usually wear boots that stop just above the ankle. When I wear my jeggings they tend to ride up my legs and leave what for me is an unsightly gap between the boot and the hem. The only time this isn’t a problem is when the inside leg is 34″ but that length is hard to find. I’ll definitely give these a try. Thanks for the idea xx
