BLANK NYC is a denim brand that I have been fond of for a while. They make amazing jeans, both classic and fun, with inventive fabrics and unique designs, for a price point that’s lower than $100. This is something that’s incredibly important in the denim world as not everyone can afford to shell out big bucks on a pair of jeans that they might only wear a couple of times, so BLANK NYC can offer the fun prints and styles with a much more affordable price tag. The Jeans Blog was lucky enough to get the chance to talk to BLANK NYC’s Vice President, Will Redgate and their Design Director, Emmy Lauridesen, to find out more about the brand, their concept, their new styles, their vegan leather and much more in this exclusive interview! You can read the interview below and see a few of their Look Book images for Spring 2014! Don’t forget to shop their current collection online at Shopbop.com too!
TJB – For those who aren’t too familiar with BLANK NYC, can you tell us a bit about your brand?
Will – We are a 7 year old brand that offers jeans with premium design, fit and quality for under $100. We also have a compelling assortment of contemporary outerwear at very approachable prices. Design is the core strength of our brand and we strive to offer unique items each season. We only distribute to better retailers such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus Cusp, and ShopBop.
TJB – Why was it important to you to have a much lower price point?
Will – Our team has decades of manufacturing experience and we knew we could deliver consumers a lower-priced, high-quality alternative to premium denim. The demand for less-expensive and on-trend apparel has grown significantly. We offer a wide variety of products that is matched by very few other brands, if any, at this price point. It gives women an option that was not available a few years ago. This is a trend that is here to stay.
TJB – How do you make sure your jeans have amazing fabric, fit and looks with such a cheap price point?
Will – We have a supply chain that differs from the premium brands. We work diligently to find fabrics that are of the same quality but our methods allow us to produce at a lower cost. We work equally as hard to maintain the integrity of the garments. This requires additional effort, but our customers have come to expect this from us. It seems to be appreciated.
TJB – Your vegan leather is amazing! Can you tell us more about it?
Will – Thank you! We started using our vegan quality in just a few 5-pocket, legging, and jacket styles but it has become a driving force for us. We developed a few different fabrics and ultimately found qualities that look authentic, fit great and are extremely comfortable. They provide a humane alternative to leather and, since people are more conscientious than ever, it is now a very successful category for us.
TJB – Do you plan on creating anymore styles with the vegan leather?
Will – For sure! As long as there is demand for vegan leather tops and bottoms we will continue to develop unique styles in this fabric.
TJB – What are your favourite pieces from the current summer 2014 collection?
Will – Our new slim boyfriend jean in distressed denim looks fantastic. We developed a version of our vegan Private Practice jacket in a vest style that is getting a great response. Also, our embroidered shorts are a great alternative to basic cutoffs.
TJB – What’s in store for Winter 2014?
Will – We have some amazing, new novelty styles in our vegan bottoms. In the past, boyfriend jeans were mostly a spring style but we see it as a year-round option now and offer it in some great washes with heavy distressing. Watch out for our faux-furs which we offer in fun silhouettes and they feel incredibly plush. Two-tone and patchwork jeans are also key pieces on the Fall/Winter line.
TJB – Do you have anything else fun and exciting happening at BLANK NYC?
Will – There’s always something fun and exciting going on here. We added sweaters to the line and they complement the jeans perfectly. We have a couple of other things in the works and will keep you posted.
TJB – What’s your favorite pair of jeans that you have designed?
Emmy – “The Vacation” A black denim patchwork and vegan leather frayed jean. Looks just right and resembles its name.
TJB – Lastly, add anything else you need to!
Will – We’d like to thank everyone who supports [BLANKNYC] and we will continue to offer product that excites them! Follow our social media pages and tell us what you think. We love feedback and it’s great to hear what people have to say.
I love Blank! They remind me a lot of Kill City…both brands are cheaper than most premium denim but don’t skimp on the wide range of basic to super edgy and cool styles. They are both so fun 🙂 Great post, Lorna.

Thank you! I’m glad you like it 🙂
I haven’t tried this brand yet, because I always heard the sizing ran a bit different. Wish they were carried in more stores (besides the usual USA ones lol). Definitly more likely to try them out after this, though. Loved the interview 🙂

They definitely run smaller! I think it’s probably safe to say go with your bigger size, but Shopbop stock loads and since you said they now have free returns for you, it might be the time to give it a shot 😀
