Here is the brand new Fall Winter 2014 Look Book from BALDWIN Denim. I was lucky enough to actually get to chat to the designer, Matt Baldwin, about the collection and what his inspirations were. I think it’s a great season, it’s filled with classics in a darker colour palette and it has a very masculine vibe to it, despite being feminine at the same time. It’s definitely one of those easy collections which you can just wear on the weekends in the day time! So, check out the interview below and you can also see the looks in the gallery too!
The Jeans Blog – Could you tell us about the new Fall line?
Matt – Creative Workwear, meaning what people who work in the creative industry wear to work, was the theme for Fall 2014. The core denim offering centered on black denim as the go-to jean for the season. The traditional indigo is still riding a close shotgun this season but in the form of tops and jackets.
TJB – What inspired you when designing the Fall collection?
Matt – Black warp black weft is the go to fabric for Fall 2014. Having worked in the fashion industry for over a decade, I’ve always felt strongly about wearing clothing that reflects a strong but refined aesthetic, coupled with the functionality of workwear. This season is the strongest BALDWIN Denim and Collection season to date, telling the lifestyle story of creative workwear through our #coolcore products: technical outerwear pieces, knits, moleskin pants, waterproof fabrics, luxury canvas and Italian yarn blends.
TJB – What’s your favourite pair of jeans from the collection?
Matt – The Henley jean in black on black 15oz rinsed. It’s the best fabric I’ve ever broken in.
TJB – How does the women’s denim differ from the men’s?
Matt – The women’s collection incorporates the attributes of authenticity in the washes, while the knit selection and a palette of strong, modern neutrals defines the men’s collection. However, the fits in the women’s collection are decidedly feminine.
TJB – Can you tell us what we can expect from BALDWIN in the coming seasons?
Matt – For Spring / Summer 2015 story, the collection for men centers on Modern Military. The women’s collection is a feminine compliment to that military inspiration, taking inspiration from the 1940’s era. Army green is our new core color for the season, added to our always present navy, black, white, and grey palette. Japanese military cord gives a sense of strength to the men’s collection while a modern floral print is the standout for the women’s collection.
TJB – Thank you, Matt! It’s a fantastic collection.
